New Mill In Monticello

Thank you to Kim at Coast to Coast Fiber Mill in Monticello for giving us a tour of her new facility. We had a fantastic time learning about how you magically turn our raw animal fiber into beautiful roving and yarn.

Pictures below will give you a rough idea of the process.

  • Picker – loosens up washed fiber and knocks out much of the VM (vegetable matter)
Carder – Rolling drums of cloth covered with wire brushes/teeth comb and straighten the fibers.
Spinner – Roving is fed in and becomes yarn in whatever ply or weight the customer requests.
